Everyone is judging you.
Is this weeks revelation from photographing thousands of head shots over ten years.
When you see your own profile photo we're judging ourselves so harshly for:
😶 That scar on our cheek
😁 Our gums when we smile
👃 The size of our nostrils... the list is unique to every individual and it's human nature.
I love hearing about them and I've never met a human who doesn't have something they micro view in themselves.
I pondered, why do we view these features so personal to us, in a negative way.
Why do we think seeing too much gum because our face can't contain our joy is something others shouldn't be seeing?
Yet when we see others profile photos we don't see those things. We're looking for things we can relate to, human to human - what do we have in common we see to potentially get to know, like and trust them from a profile photo?
Here is what I see when I look at profile photos:
✔ Oh they look friendly
✔ Very professional
✔ They seem legit
✔ Look for the guy with dark hair, likely to be wearing a suit
So next time you're having your photo taken, remember the only person who will be judging you is yourself, no one else.
Do a quick check of your profile photo, do you look:
😊 friendly/approachable
🙂 professional
😐 trustworthy
👋 will someone new meeting you recognise you from your photo
